Its lance-shaped opposite leaves clasp the stem in pairs, and the densely packed flower racemes are visible from a distance even amid the murky greens and browns of swamp vegetation. Loosestrife often grows alongside Typha Latifolia, forming mixed wetland herb stands.

In the alchemy system, Loosestrife's wetland origin gives it effect tags compatible with water-affinity, cleansing, or endurance themes in brewed potions.
