Bloater Larva
Wildlife
The Bloater Larva is among the most dangerous non-boss creatures in Everwind, a grotesque swamp-dwelling organism whose combat abilities break the standard rules of engagement in ways that can catch even experienced players completely off guard. Found near swamps and waterlogged areas, the Bloater Larva is a pulsing, bloated creature whose body is distended with volatile magical energy. Its slow movement is deceptive: its attacks do not require it to close into normal melee range.
WARNING: The Bloater Larva deals area-of-effect magic damage, and its attacks are COMPLETELY UNPARRIABLE. No parry, block, or shield will mitigate its damage. This is a critical distinction that makes the Bloater Larva uniquely deadly among swamp enemies. Its AoE nature means staying close is dangerous, but its range means distance does not fully protect players either. The only reliable mitigation is evasion and positioning, combined with high enough magic resistance to survive the hits that land.
The Bloater Larva's presence near swamp areas means it can appear in proximity to the skeleton-infested territories of the Swamp and Cemetery biome, potentially layering its unique magical threat on top of undead archer fire. Players who rely on reactive defense through parrying or shield-blocking will need to completely abandon those habits when a Bloater Larva is nearby. Engaging it from range while staying mobile and aware of the AoE radius is the recommended approach. Consider it a mandatory test of adaptability in Everwind's danger ecosystem.
