Biome
Rotten Island
High
Rotten Island is a Zone 2 biome defined by decaying infrastructure, corroded metal frameworks, and the ever-present threat of mechanical enemies that explode violently on death. The island takes its name from the advanced state of decay covering its structures, remnants of a Steamer civilization that once operated vast industrial complexes here. Players flying from the Russet Forest will find this biome offers critical mid-game materials including iron ore and coal, both essential for Bronze and Iron-tier crafting.
The resident Steamer enemies, including the Rusted Axiom Crawler and Damaged Steamer variants, are uniquely dangerous because their death explosions deal significant area-of-effect damage. The Rotten Island Dungeon rewards players who survive this hazard with access to the Wraith Lord boss fight, which drops the Rune of Elements, a powerful item used in advanced socketing and enchanting. The Steamer Mines, a separate point of interest on the island, contain the Forge Blueprint and Rare Metal Scraps needed to unlock high-tier crafting stations.
Lore suggests that the Steamers were a self-replicating mechanical civilization that eventually collapsed under the weight of their own entropy, leaving the island to rust and decay. Players new to this biome should prioritize keeping distance from Steamer enemies and use explosive-resistant armor if available, since clusters of Steamers can chain-detonate and wipe out unprepared adventurers in seconds. Securing a safe landing zone on the island's edge before pushing inward is strongly recommended.
