Enemy
Toad
Wildlife
The Toad is a surprisingly aggressive amphibian found in the Starting Meadows, making it one of the first hostile creatures new players encounter in Everwind. Squat and wide-mouthed, the Toad's damp, mottled skin blends into the muddy ground of meadow edges and pond banks, and it can be easy to stumble into one before registering the threat. Unlike passive frogs or toads players might expect, this creature attacks immediately when approached.
As an early-game aggressive animal, the Toad's combat stats are relatively modest, suitable for introduction-level encounters. Its attacks consist of lunging bites and, in some cases, a ranged spittle attack that can slow or poison players who are not prepared for a venomous combatant. The Toad's main purpose as a design enemy is to teach new players the difference between passive and aggressive wildlife, and to reinforce the need to read creature behavior before approaching.
Toads in the Starting Meadows serve as one of the earliest combat benchmarks in Everwind, and players who struggle against them may need to reassess their equipment or approach before venturing further. While they drop limited materials, the EXP from early Toad kills contributes meaningfully to initial character progression. Players returning to the Starting Meadows later in the game will find Toads trivially easy, a reminder of how far their character has grown.
