Wooden Steering Wheel
MechanismPart
The Wooden Steering Wheel is a hand-crafted hardwood helm wheel with iron-banded spokes, designed as the physical pilot interface in the airship's Cockpit. Its large diameter provides mechanical advantage for course corrections, and the ergonomic grip notches carved into each spoke allow precise control during extended flight. The warm grain of the polished hardwood gives the Wooden Steering Wheel a nautical character that contrasts pleasingly with the industrial metal components surrounding it in the Cockpit assembly.
The Wooden Steering Wheel is a required crafting ingredient for the Cockpit at the Fabricator station, working in tandem with the Steering Gear to form the complete directional control system. The Cockpit is the nerve center of any airship, and both the Wooden Steering Wheel and the Steering Gear must be present in the recipe for the build to succeed. Players should source both components together to streamline the Cockpit construction step.
Wooden Steering Wheels are crafted at the Carpenter Station using hardwood planks and iron fittings. Hardwood is obtained by felling mature trees in Forest biomes, while iron fittings require basic smelting. The Carpenter Station itself is an early-game unlock, making the Wooden Steering Wheel one of the more accessible mechanism parts. Stock a spare unit in case of Cockpit repairs during long expeditions.
