The Barrelback Skitter is a medium-sized insectoid creature found in Everwind, distinguished by its rounded, heavily armored carapace that curves over its back like a barrel. It moves on multiple segmented legs with a chittering, skittering gait that is instantly recognizable. The Barrelback Skitter is a neutral creature: it will not attack unprovoked, but it defends itself fiercely when threatened.

With 45 HP, 19 DEF, and attacks dealing 6 to 7 damage, the Barrelback Skitter has better defenses than most wildlife players encounter at its tier, making it slightly tougher to whittle down than its size implies. Its armored back reduces incoming damage from above and behind, so targeting its underside or legs is more effective. It rewards 37 EXP on defeat, making it a worthwhile kill for players leveling through Zone 2.

The Barrelback Skitter is closely related to the Timberbarrel Skitter and the Scrapcorne Skitter Rustworn, all sharing the same basic body plan with different size and elemental theming. Farming Barrelback Skitters is useful for collecting insectoid carapace materials that may be used in crafting mid-tier armor components.
