Filth Rat

Wildlife

The Filth Rat is a vermin creature associated with Mortivar ruins and decayed environments across the floating islands. These creatures are not Mortivar constructs but rather opportunistic pests that thrive in the rot and refuse left behind by undead-humanoid occupation. Small, aggressive, and found in clusters, Filth Rats occupy the lowest tier of the enemy hierarchy but should not be dismissed entirely, as their numbers can cause unexpected damage to unprepared players.

Filth Rats deal 8 damage per hit at a flat rate and carry 30 HP with no documented defense value, rewarding 25 EXP on defeat. Their low HP makes them trivial to kill individually, and any weapon type will dispatch them in one or two hits. The concern with Filth Rats lies entirely in encounter density; a group of Filth Rats landing multiple hits simultaneously can produce a burst of damage disproportionate to their individual threat level. Players should clear Filth Rat clusters with area-effect attacks or sweeping melee strikes when available.

Filth Rats serve a lore function in Everwind as indicators of Mortivar-corrupted environments, their presence hinting at nearby ruins, resource nodes, or dungeon entry points. While they lack the faction affiliation and elemental resistances of true Mortivar units, their association with Mortivar territory means players encountering Filth Rats are likely close to more dangerous enemies such as the Mortivar Warrior or Mortivar Miner Crawler. Filth Rats do not appear to drop Mortivar skulls or crafting materials of significance, and their primary value to players is the 25 EXP reward and their role as environmental indicators.
