The Skeleton King is the boss of the Swamp and Cemetery Dungeon, found at Zone 2 altitude within the half-submerged ancient burial grounds of the Swamp biome. He is a mid-game boss that represents the first major difficulty spike beyond starting zone content, and defeating him is a critical milestone that rewards some of the best mid-game armor in Everwind: the Skeleton King Chestplate with 25 Defense and 500 Endurance.

The Adds: Skeleton King Elite Guard

The Skeleton King enters the fight accompanied by Skeleton King Elite Guards, high-HP skeleton warriors that deal significant damage and must be managed to avoid being overwhelmed. The correct approach is to clear the Elite Guards before focusing on the Skeleton King himself. The Guards prioritize close-range melee, so use the Stick Bow or Bronze Reinforced Bow to pick them off from range while keeping the Skeleton King in your peripheral vision.

Elite Guards have higher HP than standard Skeleton Warriors found in the dungeon approach. If you have invested in the Warrior skill Crushing Blow (Tier 3), activating it during the adds phase lets you deal increased damage to the Guards in quick succession. Do not use your healing potions during the adds phase: save them for the Skeleton King direct combat.

Skeleton King Combat Strategy

Once the Elite Guards are down, the Skeleton King becomes the sole focus. His attack pattern includes a wide melee sweep that can hit multiple players, a bone projectile volley, and a stomp that staggers nearby enemies. The melee sweep is fully parriable with Parry Master invested; time your parry to the beginning of his arm animation, not the end. His bone projectile volley requires active dodging since projectiles cannot be parried in the traditional sense.

Poison gas from the dungeon environment can still affect you during the boss room fight, depending on the dungeon's layout. Keep your Antidote Potion ready and use it immediately if the Poison status icon appears. Fighting through poison damage while simultaneously managing the Skeleton King's attacks significantly increases the challenge, so eliminating the status effect quickly is more important than any single attack opportunity.

The Skeleton King does not have documented multiple phases, making him a more straightforward boss than the Wraith Lord or Massive Golem Boss. Maintain aggressive pressure, parry his sweeps, dodge his projectiles, and use Greater Healing Potion when your HP drops below 50%. With solid preparation, the fight is manageable within two to three minutes.

Drops and Rewards

The Skeleton King drops the Skeleton King Chestplate (25 DEF, 500 Endurance), one of the highest-defense chestplates in the mid game and a major reason to farm this boss. He also guarantees a Rune of Swiftness drop (+15% Attack Speed), which is one of the most universally useful weapon runes in the game. Additional drops include mid-tier crafting materials and potentially Skeleton Iron equipment pieces used to craft the Skeleton Iron armor set.
