Whittled Stakes

The Whittled Stakes are a Wood-tier dagger weapon in Everwind, representing the most basic form of close-quarters combat available to new survivors. Dealing modest damage with no notable stat requirements, they are crafted at either the standard Crafting Station or via Pocket Crafting, making them accessible from the very first moments of a playthrough. Their endurance is limited, reflecting their primitive construction from sharpened wooden stakes bound together for dual-wielding.

As a dagger-class weapon, the Whittled Stakes excel in rapid attack speed and critical hit potential, trading raw damage for burst windows and aggressive hit-and-run play. No skill requirement is needed to equip them, placing them firmly in the early-game arsenal. They occupy one rune slot, allowing a single rune such as Life Steal or Poison to be permanently socketed, and can be upgraded up to +10 at the Upgrade Station to extend their usefulness slightly into the Stone tier transition.

Best used against the weakest creatures in the starting biomes, such as small woodland animals and early undead, the Whittled Stakes set the template for the dagger playstyle that scales all the way to the Bronze Twins and Marrow Fangs. Players who invest in critical hit synergies early will find even this humble weapon rewarding. The natural progression from Whittled Stakes leads to Knapped Edges, which introduce Stone-tier damage and improved durability.
