Iron Ore
Ore
Iron Ore is one of the most important mid-to-late-game resources in Everwind, found primarily in Zone 2 (400-900m) with deposits extending into Zone 3. It appears as dark grey metallic veins in rocky mountainous terrain and cliff faces across higher-altitude biomes. Reaching reliable Iron Ore deposits is a significant milestone in any survivor's progression, marking the transition from early copper tools to powerful iron and steel gear.
Iron Ore is smelted into Iron Ingot at the Furnace, which is required for crafting Iron-tier weapons and armor, both of which demand the Master Weapons and Master Armor skills respectively. Beyond standalone iron equipment, Iron Ingot is also a key ingredient in Steel Ingot production: combining Iron Ingot with Coal at the Furnace yields Steel Ingot, one of the most advanced crafting materials in the game. This dual role makes iron one of the most demanded metals across all crafting systems.
Prioritize developing the Master Weapons and Master Armor skills once you begin accumulating Iron Ingots, as those skill unlocks are required before iron gear can actually be crafted. Mining Iron Ore alongside Coal during Zone 2 exploration is highly efficient, since both materials are needed together for Steel Ingot production. Carrying a high-quality pickaxe is essential for iron mining, as the ore is harder to extract than copper or pyrite. Build a large reserve before attempting any steel crafting projects.
