Everwind Mortivar Lord Boss Guide: Forest Dungeon Strategy
Date Published

The Mortivar Lord is the boss of the Forest Dungeon, located in the Russet Forest or Forest biome at Zone 2 altitude (400-1000m). He is the first major boss most players encounter after leaving the Starting Meadows zone, and defeating him marks the transition from early game to mid game. His guaranteed drop, the Mortivar Lord Skull, is a unique airship upgrade material that improves your vessel's combat or structural capabilities.
Recommended Preparation
- Minimum armor: Leather or Copper armor set (7 DEF chest minimum)
- Weapons: Copper Blade or Bronze Sword for melee; Copper Reinforced Bow for ranged
- Skills: Parry Master (essential), Defense Stance (helpful for surviving his power attacks)
- Potions: Healing Potion (x3), Stone Skin Potion for the boss room entry
- Keys: Have Apprentice Keys available for the locked chests in the dungeon approach
- Repair your Primitive Repair Station kit before entering
The Adds
The Mortivar Lord is accompanied by an Immortal Mortivar Lord Guardian that cannot be killed, and Mortivar Executioner Cutters who spawn periodically during the fight. The Immortal Guardian must be managed by keeping it at the edge of your awareness without trying to kill it: attacking it wastes resources. Focus exclusively on the Executioner Cutters when they appear, dispatching them quickly with high-damage attacks like Crushing Blow before returning to the Mortivar Lord.
The Executioner Cutters are dangerous because they interrupt your attack flow against the Mortivar Lord and can deal burst damage from behind if you lose track of them. Use your Spyglass before entering the boss room if possible to count how many Cutters are positioned inside. If you have the Multi-Arrow skill, it is excellent for hitting both the Mortivar Lord and any Cutters simultaneously during their approach.
Boss Combat
The Mortivar Lord uses slow, powerful melee attacks that are heavily telegraphed. His overhead slam is the most dangerous, dealing the highest single-hit damage of his moveset. The parry window for the overhead slam is generous: begin your parry as his weapon reaches the apex of the wind-up. A successful parry of the overhead slam stuns him briefly, creating an ideal counterattack window for two or three rapid strikes.
His secondary attack is a shield bash that staggers you without dealing high damage, but the stagger creates vulnerability to his follow-up strike. If you see him raise his shield rather than his weapon, back away quickly instead of trying to parry: shield bashes are harder to counter than weapon attacks and the stagger is more dangerous than the damage.
Drops and Rewards
The Mortivar Lord drops his namesake Skull, an airship upgrade material that provides structural or functional improvements to your vessel when used at the appropriate crafting station. He also drops advanced gear pieces appropriate to his dungeon tier and provides a substantial experience payout. Clearing the Forest Dungeon in full, including the Mortivar Lord, is one of the highest-efficiency experience-per-time activities available in the early mid game.
