Learn Basics - Repairing

Tutorial

Learn Basics - Repairing is the third tutorial quest in Everwind's introductory sequence, designed to teach players the equipment durability system and how to maintain their tools and armor before heading into more demanding zones. Set in the Starting Meadows, the quest walks players through the process of identifying degraded equipment, gathering the repair materials needed for their current gear tier, and using a repair station to restore items to full durability. Understanding this system early prevents the frustrating situation of having equipment break mid-combat in the Russet Forest or on Rotten Island.

Equipment durability decreases with each use in combat and during resource gathering, and items that fully degrade lose effectiveness or become unusable until repaired. This quest introduces the material requirements for repairing wood and stone-tier gear, which differ from the requirements for repairing copper, bronze, or iron-tier items encountered later in the progression. Guards in Starting Meadows settlements can serve as low-risk combat practice that generates meaningful durability wear on equipment, making them useful for testing the repair system in a safe environment before higher-stakes encounters.

This quest pairs closely with Learn Basics - Smelting, since smelting produces the metal ingots that serve as repair components for mid-game and late-game equipment. Players who internalize both systems early will maintain a significant survival advantage throughout their time in Zone 2 biomes like the Russet Forest and the Swamp and Cemetery. The repair system also extends to airship components, meaning that the habits taught in this quest apply directly to maintaining the Cockpit, Engine, and Hull Blocks that keep players airborne between islands.
