Quest
Learn Basics - Smelting
Tutorial
Learn Basics - Smelting is the second tutorial quest in Everwind's introductory sequence, introducing players to the ore refinement system that underpins all mid-game and late-game material progression. Taking place in the Starting Meadows, the quest guides players through gathering raw ore, constructing or locating a smelting furnace, and producing their first metal ingots. These early ingots represent the beginning of a material chain that extends all the way from copper and pyrite through bronze, iron, and ultimately into the Mechanical and Unique equipment tiers.
The smelting system is central to Everwind's crafting economy: raw ores gathered from copper veins in the Russet Forest, iron deposits on Rotten Island, and Gold Ore in the Desert biome are all useless without a functioning smelting setup to convert them into workable ingots. This quest establishes the foundational knowledge needed to operate the Forge Blueprint later obtained from the Steamer Mines, which unlocks high-tier fabrication capabilities. Completing the smelting tutorial also unlocks the ability to repair metal-tier equipment, directly connecting to the content covered in Learn Basics - Repairing.
Players who rush past this quest without fully understanding the smelting interface often hit a progression wall when they reach the Russet Forest and find their stone-tier equipment outmatched by Mortivar warriors. Returning to the Starting Meadows Merchants to purchase additional ore for practice runs is always an option, and completing this quest in full provides an experience reward that contributes to early Warrior or Engineer skill tree nodes. The smelting system also feeds into airship upgrades, since the Airship Core requires smelted metal components to reach the higher tiers needed for Zone 2 and Zone 3 access.
