Mining is the foundation of all metal crafting in Everwind. Every weapon, armor piece, and crafting station made from metal requires ore that must be mined from rock formations in the biomes, smelted into ingots at the Furnace, and then processed further at the Smithing Station. This guide covers every ore type, where to find it, what altitude zone it appears in, and what it is used to create.

Zone 1 Ores (0-400m)

Copper Ore is the first metal ore new players encounter, found abundantly in the Starting Meadows and lower Jungle biome. It is smelted into Copper Ingots at the Furnace and used to craft the Copper tier of weapons, tools, and armor. Copper is the gateway material that unlocks the Crafting Station's metal recipes and is a prerequisite for everything that follows in the technology tree.

Tin Ore is found primarily in the Jungle biome at Zone 1 altitude. Unlike Copper, Tin does not produce Tin Ingots used directly in armor or weapons; instead, it combines with Copper Ore at the Furnace to produce Bronze Ingots. The recipe is Copper + Tin = Bronze Ingot. This means that maintaining a Tin supply is essential for Bronze tier progression, even though Tin itself has no other direct uses.

Zone 2 Ores (400-900m)

Pyrite is a mid-altitude ore found in Zone 2 biomes, particularly the Russet Forest. Pyrite Ingots are smelted from Pyrite Ore and used in the Pyrite tier of weapons, which sits between Copper and Bronze in the material progression. Pyrite weapons offer a noticeable damage improvement over Copper and serve as a useful bridging tier while you accumulate enough Tin for full Bronze crafting.

Iron Ore is the most important Zone 2 resource, found primarily in the Russet Forest and Rotten Island. Iron Ore is smelted into Iron Ingots and combines with Coal (also Zone 2) to produce Steel Ingots at the Furnace. Steel is the highest standard crafting tier for weapons and armor in the documented game content, making Iron and Coal mining in Zone 2 biomes the core economic activity of the mid-to-late game.

Coal is found at Zone 2, with the highest density on the Rotten Island. It is not smelted into an ingot on its own but instead serves as the second component in the Steel Ingot recipe (Iron + Coal = Steel Ingot). Players who find Iron Ore without Coal have incomplete progression: establishing a route that covers both the Russet Forest (Iron) and Rotten Island (Coal) is the standard approach to sustained Steel Ingot production.

Sulphur appears at Zone 2 and is used in specific crafting recipes, particularly for explosive or alchemical applications. It does not produce a standard ingot like Iron or Copper, but certain weapon and potion recipes call for it as a component. Gather it when encountered but do not build dedicated farming routes around it until a specific recipe requires it.

Zone 3 Ores (900-1800m)

Gold Ore is found exclusively in Zone 3, the Desert biome at high altitude. Gold Ingots smelted from Gold Ore are used in top-tier crafting recipes and high-value items not fully documented in community wikis at Early Access launch. Gold is the rarest harvestable ore in the game and gathering it requires a fully upgraded airship capable of reaching Zone 3 altitude with a Heating Unit to manage temperature extremes.

Mining Efficiency Tips

Upgrade your Pickaxe progressively as you unlock new metal tiers. A Copper Pickaxe is noticeably faster than a Stone Pickaxe, and the investment pays back quickly in time saved during intensive mining sessions. The Engineer skill Advanced Tools provides further tool efficiency bonuses that stack with pickaxe tier. The Diligence Potion (+5% tool effectiveness for 300 seconds) is worth drinking before long mining runs in Iron-rich zones. Always mine ore veins completely before moving on: partial mining misses the final high-yield nodes at the center of each vein.
